Police have launched an investigation into the incident ahead of the Madrid derby in the Copa del Rey.


Investigators obtained photographs of a banner depicting Anne Frank wearing a T-shirt with the Frente Atletico logo (an association of the most active Atletico Madrid fans - approx. ). The banner read: Anne Frank - from Atletico.


It is believed that this was done by members of the Real Madrid fan group Ultras Sur. The banner was hung near the Santiago Bernabeu stadium, on Marceliano Santa Maria street, where the group usually gathers.


Anne Frank was a Jewish girl who died in a Nazi concentration camp in 1945. Her story became known to the whole world thanks to accidentally preserved diaries.
